One thing that did not change was the array of performing arts presented in the complex. Under the new name, it became the home of Opera Colorado, Denver’s premier opera company. The venue reopened on Septemas an extension of the Denver Performing Arts Complex, and was renamed The Ellie Caulkins Opera House. The original Municipal Auditorium went through multiple changes over the years, with a massive $82 million renovation in 2002. It also became the home venue for performances from the Colorado Ballet Company. It later became the principal opera house in Denver with operatic and ballet presentations of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. In the beginning, the box office sold tickets to operas, concerts, musicals, plays, basketball games and even the 1908 Democratic National Convention. It was originally called The Municipal Auditorium and became the second largest venue of its kind in the United States. The Ellie Caulkins Opera House, commonly called The Ellie, opened in Denver, Colorado on July 8, 1908.
